We all know and hate the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United. Yet that decision and much of what we decry with regards to political corruption can be traced to a SCOTUS decision in 1976 where the Court said "money is speech." The Court held in Buckley v. Valeo that the government could not regulate political expenditures because "money is speech" and such regulations violate the first amendment.
It is despicable and illogical conclusion and to blame for much of the current problems with the campaign finance system. Despite this, I don't think the Democratic Party has ever called for it to be overturned. It is definitely not in the 2012 platform. And we know the Republicans would never call for its reversal.
This is an amazing development. Please spend part of the holiday weekend calling the Democratic Party and any delegates you know and telling them that this language must stay in the platform.
